About me

To start, I think it is important that I am a local Austinite. I have watched this city change and grow since the early 70's. I went to elementary school at Redeemer Lutheran School on Anderson Ln. I went to Middle and High School at Hutto High when it was a tiny 1A school with less than 30 kids per grade. I went to Concordia Lutheran College when it was on IH35 right in the middle of town. I've always loved art and working with people.
My design career began with Decorating Den Interiors in 1996. It was a full-service design business, bringing the samples to client’s homes we would design and sell everything for the interior. In 2011 I sold that franchise and created Kat Designs. I shifted from product sales to hourly consulting. My goal is always to determine what the client wants and to find the best solutions for their project. Sometimes I am closely involved from beginning to end of a project, sometimes I am just there to help the client come up with a plan and they take it from there. I charge hourly for my services so you are free to have me as involved as you need. Whatever size your project and however much assistance you need I can help you find the resources and products to complete the job.
During covid I found myself with no office, very few clients and a LOT of time on my hands. Without the creative outlet of designing, I turned to other forms of art. I began experimenting with Alcohol Inks. As a child I loved to draw and paint and doodle. My father and brother used to always ask me “what is it?” of everything I created. My response was always (annoyed that they couldn’t see my vision) “it’s just a design”. So when I began creating art again I decided “It’s Just A Design” is what I’d call it. So now in addition to helping clients with their homes I am also creating and selling art. This all fits with where I am in life and I hope my love for what I do comes through in all of it.
